Six-Armed Mahākāla (Mahakala), Antiqued Bronze Statue Affiliation: Originated in Shangpa Kagyu “Golden Dharma”; later became one of Gelug’s main protectors; also venerated by Sakya, Karma Kagyu, and Jonang. Embodiment: Wrathful manifestation of Eleven-Faced Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara, known as “Obstacle-Clearing Lord” or “Six-Armed Hero Protector”. Karma Kagyu status: Respected but not the exclusive root protector; Karma Kagyu’s unique protector remains the Two-Armed Black-Cloaked Mahakala/Mahākāla (Bernagchen). Sakya status: Sakya honors the six-armed form as an important common protector, but it does not replace the Two-Armed Staff-Bearing Mahakala/Mahākāla as the root.
