2: A Ming Xuande-Style Bronze Censer with Openwork Cracked Ice and Plum Blossom Cover: The Unyielding Elegance of Scholars

The lid displays the cracked ice and plum blossom motif, with irregular geometric facets interlocking and plum blossoms standing proudly amidst the crevices, symbolizing a scholar’s unyielding integrity. The deep patina contrasts beautifully with the openwork design; as incense smoke rises through the ice crevices, it embodies the independent and noble spirit of a gentleman.

Adorning the lid is the linked coin motif, with round-edged, square-holed coins closely layered to create a highly orderly aesthetic, symbolizing boundless wealth and continuous prosperity. The exquisite Suzhou craftsmanship perfectly complements the full, rounded body of the censer. Placed in a study or tea room, it exudes a solemn presence while echoing the traditional cultural belief that every motif is auspicious.
